Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi

Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi was established in December 2011 and quickly became a stable reality in the Italian music scene, boasting collaborations with major Italian concert seasons, festivals and cultural institutions.

Its musicians are selected among the most promising young talents in the European context with professional experiences in the most important orchestras of the world (London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala), inspired by the common desire to give life to a young and new artistic reality.

Orchestra Vivaldi has performed more than two hundred symphonic concerts, held in the major concert halls and theaters of the country including Sala Verdi (Milan Conservatory of Music), Auditorium La Gran Guardia and Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, Teatro "Il Maggiore" in Verbania, Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro Comunale in Vicenza.

In 2014, the sold-out tour in Spain marked the Orchestra's debut on the European stage. Other international experiences are continuing in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Cina.

In 2015, just 4 years after its establishment, Orchestra Vivaldi became the resident of "Serate Musicali" concert season in Milan, thus earning a prominent role in a programme shared by the greatest artists of the international scene.
In the same year, the Orchestra also inaugurated the newborn Teatro Sociale in Sondrio with the performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, receiving significant critical and audience acclaim. Since the 2016/2017 season, the Orchestra has become orchestra in residence at the same theater.

Orchestra Vivaldi's repertoire goes so far as to embrace the contemporary music, through ongoing collaborations with some of the most important composers of the national scene such as Silvia Colasanti, Fabio Vacchi, Giorgio Battistelli, Piergiorgio Ratti, Antonio Eros Negri, Andrea Portera.

Besides, the Orchestra is proud of its collaborations with world renowned conductors and soloists, such as Andrea Battistoni, Luciana Serra, José Luis Gomez, Salvatore Di Vittorio, Francesco Manara, Giampaolo Pretto, Giuliano Sommerhalder, Vincenzo Balzani, Francesco Tamiati, Stefan Schulz, Michel Becquet.

The very young Artistic Direction is composed of Lorenzo Passerini (musical director), Piergiorgio Ratti (composer in residence), Tommaso Benciolini (artistic advisor) and Ernesto Colombo (orchestra manager).

​Orchestra Vivaldi's activities are supported by the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture and Tourism.


M° Ovidiu Balan - Conductor

Maestro Ovidiu Balan, the “honorific manager” and conductor of the philharmonic orchestra “Mihail Jora” of Bacau, belongs to the generation of dedicated and famous leaders of orchestra whose merits are internationally acclaimed.
He studied in Bucharest with Maestro Iosif Conta and attended courses in Holland, France, USA with Jean Fournet, Marius Constant, Fernand Quatrocchi, Eugene Ormandi, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel.
He has conducted important orchestras (USA, Cuba, Italy, Germany, France, Hollland, Bulgaria, Yougoslavia, Russia, Portugal, Poland, Hungaria) and received the A.T.M. Prize for the interpretation of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, the prize of the art critics for the interpretation of contemporary music and the prize awarded by the newspapers in Bacau.
For his artistic activity he received the “Cultural Merit” award (1982), the title of “Master of Arts” (1994) in the Moldovian Republic, of Honorary Citizen of Bacau city and district, “Puncetto d’Oro” of the city of Varallo - Italy and Honorary Citizen of city of Cantù - Italy
